MASLOW HEIRCHY OF NEEDS

Maslow has set up a hierarchy of five levels of basic needs. These need included physiological, safety, love/belonging, esteem and self-actualization. In the levels of the five basic needs, the person does not feel the second need until the demands of the first have been satisfied, nor the third until the second has been satisfied, and so on”. If students' basic needs are not met student performance will suffer. The implications of Maslow's theories are many. Students will be motivational learners when their basic physical, mental, and emotional needs are met. Though, teachers are limited in their ability to meet all these needs completely, in the classroom they can establish a nurturing environment in which students can grow. If students display behavior problems, teachers can first assess the situation to determine if the child is struggling in a particular area and respond appropriately to their actions.
